The 2015 season has not been kind to Tony Stewart. During the opening practice for the Axalta 400, that trend continued when he spun out at Pocono and ran into a tire wall.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s co-owner immediately told his crew, “Get the other one ready guys.” As a result of the wreck, Stewart will have to use his backup car for the race.

Prior to Stewart’s wreck, several drivers including Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were complaining about the bumps in the tunnel turn. While Stewart’s wreck was following that turn, he didn’t place the blame on the track.

“I got loose on the exit (of the tunnel turn) and couldn’t save it,” Stewart said. “Just driver error.”

The change will force Stewart to start from the rear of the field regardless of his qualifying position. Stewart was able to win a race at Pocono after starting from the rear in 2009, which marked his first win of that season. It might be a tough task, but it’s one Stewart is comfortable with during his career.
