Ernest Pierce, a development pit crew member with Joe Gibbs Racing, has been indefinitely suspended by NASCAR after violating the substance abuse policy.

NASCAR announced the decision on Tuesday afternoon after Pierce violated section 12-1 and 19 of the rule book on June 17. In order to be reinstated, the JGR crew member will have to complete NASCAR’s “Road to Recovery” program.

No further details were released in the report and Gibbs will deal with any further discipline internally. Luckily for the JGR program, Pierce’s indefinite suspension doesn’t affect any specific crew at the Xfinity or Sprint Cup level, but does raise a red flag for the program.
