Tempers flared up at Watkins Glen following Saturday’s Xfinity race at Watkins Glen when Regan Smith confronted Ty Dillon on pit road. Smith swung at Dillon before being separated by crew members and took Dillon’s hat as a souvenir.
The JR Motorsports driver was upset with Dillon after he cut him off in a turn at the Glen and caused him to spin. Smith would recover to finish 20th while Dillon turned in a top-five finish. That clearly didn’t sit well with Smith as he went after Richard Childress’ grandson.

Once he stepped away from the brawl, Smith told reporters, “There’s zero chance that 3-car wins the championship.” Meanwhile, Dillon made a point to tell NBCSN, “If he wants to handle it like that, we’ll just meet in the bus lot. I’m not afraid.”
With another road course coming up next weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, it should be interesting to see how Smith retaliates. Let’s just put it this way: Restarts should be fun if the No. 3 and No. 7 are near one another.
