The Tricky Triangle started the carnage early on Sunday afternoon, but nearly took out more than just a driver. Kasey Kahne spun coming out of Turn 3 on Lap 5 and lost control heading down pit road, only to crash into a wall protecting multiple pit crew members.

Kahne and all of the crew members behind the wall were unharmed, but it was still a terrifying crash. With parts flying off of Kahne’s No. 5 Aquafina machine, the race was stopped with a red flag to clean up debris from the wreck. In fact, a piece of Kahne’s car was left lodged into the wall.
It was also a wreck that had a huge impact on the No. 5 team in the points standings. While there were still 155 laps left in the race, Kahne’s car was toast and he already dropped to 17th on the Chase Grid.
With Kyle Busch likely earning a spot with a consistent finish to the season, that feasibly puts him two spots outside of the Chase. A year after having to win late in the season just to make the Chase, Kahne might be in a similar spot again in 2015.
