The Darlington paint schemes can’t stop and won’t stop. Jimmie Johnson is the latest driver to unveil his retro look for the Southern 500 with a throwback to the start of Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Founded in 1946, Lowe’s is approaching its 70th anniversary in 2016. Johnson’s ride for the Darlington race reflects that long tradition.

After the reveal, JJ gave his thoughts on the new wrap for the Darlington event.
Darlington may be known as the track that is “Too Tough to Tame,” but Johnson has done just that during his career. With three wins, nine top fives and an average finish of 8.44 at the South Carolina track, Johnson has a great chance of driving the retro car to Victory Lane.
Johnson won’t be the only driver with a throwback look for the Southern 500. Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and more will run a retro scheme for the race. However, no one has currently topped Ryan Blaney and the Wood Brothers in the awesomeness department.
More are still on the way with Dale Earnhardt Jr. expected to have a special look and Clint Bowyer planning to honor Buddy Baker at the track. Suffice to say, the Southern 500 is setting up to be a special night under the lights.
