Kasey Kahne announced on Tuesday morning his first son, Tanner Lee Kahne, was born. Sam Sheets, Kahne’s girlfriend, delivered their child at 1:11 a.m. after the surprise reveal back in June that they were even a couple to the NASCAR world.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver revealed the news on Twitter on Tuesday.

The original due date for Sheets was Oct. 10, but Tanner waited just a little longer. It couldn’t have been a more perfect scenario for Kahne, who participated in a 5K on Sunday morning before racing that same afternoon. Kahne wrecked and finished his day 43rd in the Bank of America 500.

Kahne has endured a long season, missing the Chase and stringing together just eight top 10s all year. But with a new baby and responsibility, he could see a turnaround as a father in the coming years. After all, look how it worked out for Kevin Harvick, who won the 2014 championship with Keelan Harvick by his side, and Kyle Busch, who rattled off four wins after the birth of Brexton Busch.
