Joey Logano came into Texas Motor Speedway in a desperate situation. He will leave Texas with a must-win mentality heading to Phoenix.

The No. 22 car had a tire cut down heading into Turn 3 on Lap 9 that ended his afternoon. Logano headed straight to the garage after the tire issue and dropped to 43rd on the leaderboard after qualifying fourth.

Despite the issues, Logano remained positive in the garage.

“We needed to win,” Logano said. “We aren’t out of it though. This team isn’t quitting yet. We will go out there and gain a couple points, which don’t mean anything but we will go to Phoenix and try to win that one. It is unfortunate. It just wasn’t in the plans today.”

This of course comes a week after Matt Kenseth took Logano out at Martinsville the week prior. Kenseth was suspended for two races following the accident, but will return for the final race at Homestead-Miami.

If Logano is out of the Chase after Phoenix, the finale might set up to be a battle for more than just a championship.
