Those who live up to their name make one for themselves.
So goes the new ad from Goodyear, featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a remembrance video of sorts with vignettes of his upbringing around the track alongside his late father, Dale Earnhardt Sr.
“It tells a very personal story about me growing up, but it also hits home with where I am today, both personally and professionally,” Earnhardt Jr. said.
The advertisement shows present-day Earnhardt Jr. driving a pickup truck along a rural road as flashbacks to his youth, including highlights on the track and off, begin streaming through.
The song featured in the ad, “I Got a Name,” is covered by the late Jim Croce’s son, A.J., for this TV spot. The original was used in the 1973 biopic about NASCAR driver Junior Johnson.
Earnhardt Jr., whose father died following an on-track accident in 2001, is serving as grand marshal of the 60th Daytona 500 on Sunday. He won the event in 2004 and 2014.
The commercial, “Make a Name,” will debut during the race Sunday.
