Since the passing of Buddy Baker on Monday morning, the NASCAR world and its drivers have grieved in myriad ways. Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is looking for a way to honor the legend with a throwback paint scheme in 2016.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver didn’t provide a preview, but did note that his Nationwide crew will likely have a throwback to Baker’s 1980 ride.

This wouldn’t be the first time Earnhardt has prominently featured Baker’s design on his car. Back in 2008, the “Gray Ghost” rode again with Earnhardt behind the wheel. In 2016, a similar scheme should be unveiled to honor Baker’s 1980 Daytona 500 win in the iconic ride.
Clint Bowyer also has some plans in the works to drive a different retro scheme from Baker’s days on the track. With so many different looks, numbers and teams he drove for over the years, Baker clearly left an indelible mark on the sport. Expect much more from the NASCAR community as it looks to honor the death of one of the greatest drivers to ever grace the track.
