The Man of Steel still reigns supreme in Fontana.

For the second straight week, the Sprint Cup Series went to overtime to decide a winner at Auto Club Speedway. This time around, Jimmie Johnson came away with the checkered flag to become the first driver with multiple wins this season.

With his 77th win, Johnson now passes Dale Earnhardt Sr. on the career wins list at the Sprint Cup level at seventh all time.

Johnson won his first and 77th in Fontana — capping both with a Superman dive into his pit crew. Only this time, his crew donned true Superman capes with his team sponsored by Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice along with Hendrick teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Johnson’s win came over Kevin Harvick, who has finished 1-2 with Harvick 14 times in their careers. Over the last nine such occasions, Six-Time has won while Harvick was left in the dust.

Just behind Harvick were Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and two surprising contenders in Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Chase Elliott. The two young drivers have shown their mettle early this season, but need more consistency to truly make the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Hamlin held the lead heading into overtime thanks to winning the race off pit road, but couldn’t fend off Harvick or Johnson. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver voiced his frustration after the race.

One of the scariest wrecks of the season happened early on in the race when Kyle Larson was sent into an inside wall. The No. 42 car shredded a tire and Larson was sent flying through the air after hitting a SAFER Barrier on Lap 47.

Later in the race on Lap 120, Danica Patrick experienced a similar wreck after contact with Kasey Kahne. After Patrick was knocked out of the race, she sent a message to Kahne.

“I feel bad if he felt like he was put in a position to have to be that desperate a lap down,” Patrick said of Kahne.
